1 Piece Neck Tonewoods
Here you can find the neck and fingerboard tonewood options for both 1 and 2 piece necks. As stated before, if you can not find a particular wood, please do contact us.
Rock Maple
Maple is a very hard, heavy and dense wood. The tone is very bright with long sustain and a lot of bite.
Dense, hard and strong, offering great sustain and stability. The tone is bright.
SOUTH AMERICAN MAHOGANY
Mahogany is a fairly dense, medium-to-heavy wood that yields a wide range of guitar-body weights, depending upon stock sources. Used on its own, mahog-any’s characteristic tone is warm and somewhat soft, but well balanced with good grind and bite. There is good depth to the sound, with full but not especially tight lows, and appealing highs.
Quartersawn Maple
Identical to rock maple but due to the way it is cut, it is more structurally stable.
Birdseye Maple AAA & AAA
Birdseye is a type of figure found in rock Maple. It shows best in flat sawn wood. There is a wide variety of sizes and shapes in the "eyes." Under a gloss finish, the Birdseye takes on a 3D look for a beautiful visual appeal. It has similar tonal properties to that of rock maple.
Flame/Curly & Maple AAA & AAAA
While there are several maple species that show the flame figure, the only one hard enough for making necks is Acer saccharum. Identical to rock maple, except for the highly prized flame figuring.
(Blanks 1,3,5 & 7, we are currently unable to offer quilted maple as a core neck tonewood.)
Pau Ferro
An excellent dense, hard wood with a very tight pore structure. This means it’s fast, smooth and extremely durable. The tone is brighter than Rosewood yet warmer than Ebony with plenty of articulation and attack. Most famously found on SRV's number One.
Indian Rosewood
Indian Rosewood has the warm "rock-n-roll" tonality you’ve heard on many of the most famous rock albums in history. The warm tone is also a favorite amongst blues players.
