The Process & Ordering
We must start by clarifying that we are not and never will be an online shop, where you input your credit card details and you receive your guitar in the post a few months later from a large stock of 'ready-mades'. At Carr, we handle every case personally and individually, as they arrive. This ensures that we tailor each aspect of your instrument, to you.
For us, client care and satisfaction is paramount and we endeavour to ensure that you enjoy the process as much as we do.
We have tried to streamline our ordering process to be as straight forward and painless as possible for you.
Please feel free to fill out the specification form, which you can find in the page and submit it to us with your personal details.
This does not by any means contractually bind you to anything, instead we use it as a tool to understand as much as we can about what you are looking for. Upon receipt of your specification form we will provide a full quote, at no charge, for the rough total cost of your instrument including materials and labour, before we continue with our process.
We are happy to receive both general and detailed specifications for your desired guitar whether you are looking for a vintage recreation, a more modern appointment or perhaps an instrument from our Artist Line or, The Vault.
Alternatively, you may already have a firm grasp of what you would like, for example, let’s say that a stock dakota red 1957 Earl (S-Type), or one of our artist line instruments depicts the guitar of your dreams, leave the work with us.
This format tends to take substantially less time, due to the fact that the length of the custom work discussed, is greatly reduced. Once we have finalised the details of your instrument, we will issue a detailed manuscript, the Order Confirmation, of the guitar for your inspection before we proceed with the build.
Our bodies and necks are first cut to shape in the USA at the hands of some of the finest luthiers, at which point they are shipped over to Great Britain, the home of our Custom Shop, where the carving, profiling, sanding, finishing, electronics and detailing work is completed.
To give you as good an idea as we can of costs, pricing & timings for custom ordered guitars, we generally range between £1500-£5000, depending on the level of custom work. However, this is merely a generality and of course depending on what is required, it can fall below the range, but also rise above it. Whilst we would love to provide accurate project timings, it is very difficult to provide an estimate without any specification details however; we will provide a rough time scale on your order confirmation. In general, each guitar can take anywhere between 3-7 months depending on the extent of custom work undertaken but as with all these things, it can push past both ends of the range's extremities.
The skies are not the limit, just your imagination and curiosity!
