For Sale - Custom Deluxe Earl - £2300
We hope you all had a fantastic Summer, Autmn is indeed in session. We are now including worldwide, fully insured shipping and a personalised setup in the asking price!
This Carr Custom Earl (beetle not incuded...i'll be hanging on to that!) is crafted from a beautiful hand chosen piece of Swamp Ash & matched with a hand-selected AAA Bridseye Maple neck topped with a 9.5” radiused Rosewood fingerboard. It comes with a stunning set of Bare Knuckle vintage wound PAT PEND ’63 pickups with full metal plate/copper paint shielding. We spared no expense when it comes to hardware choices. Schaller Da Vinci machine heads truly do look spectacular alongside the custom ‘constant motion’ tremolo system that is flawless in its operation.
We also used our own, hand engraved, extra thick neck plate to ensure the best possible body to neck joint.
Both the neck and body were hand finished over 60 days using our own Signature oil, pigment & wax finish. It leaves a smooth to the touch and hard wearing result that is micro thin and also nano-porous allowing the wood to breathe and fully resonate with each note to its maximal potential. No other finish allows for this...a truly remarkable, tonally enhancing, natural finish. As you can see from all the photos there is some variance in colour tone depending on how the light hits its surface. The finish itself is also, much like nitrocellulose, continually evolving such that as you use it, it will further polish into a beautiful patina.
It is also worth noting that as this was built at the 'birth' of Carr Custom Guitars, it was the last Earl to be adorned with a fender-esque headstock shape before we had finalised our own shape.
***Should you decide to purchase the guitar, we will if requested, complete a fully optimised set up to your specifications, the details of which you can find on our page 'fret work & setup'. This will be a fully tailored, professional set up to your specification using our tensioned jig. This service will be free of charge on us (usually costing £90) and will cover everything from string gauge to action. Currently the guitar is set up with 10 gauge strings and set at medium action.***
The Audio clip below is the guitar running straight into garage band via a Line 6 Pod, a bit of a tone sap however we shall soon have a shiny new HD camcorder and mic for future demos!
For those of you who wish to know the guitars back story please continue on past the specs.

This is indeed a first for Carr Custom Guitars, in that we have never before offered a non-commissioned guitar online.
The story behind the guitar's background is not the most exciting, however many do like to know.
In the early days of Carr Custom Guitars this body was originally destined to be part of a commissioned guitar to a close friend, as a prototype of one of our Vintage Earl models. However, upon its arrival we were not 100% satisfied with the the ‘pre-sanding’ finish that had left very small, but to our eyes annoying, tooling marks that could not be entirely removed (please see last few pics) and as such we asked our luthiers to produce a second, that was flawless as usual and was used as such on the build.
We kept the body for several months and ended up matching it with a stunning birdseye maple/rosewood neck and some top notch hardware to form the truly beautiful guitar you see here, warts and all.
A guitar from Carr of these specs, which you can find above, would normally be valued under commission at £2650 or roughly $4450 for our US friends. However, since this is non-commissioned ‘fully functional prototype’ and has some minor aesthetic marks which we have photographed for you, we are more than happy to reduce our asking price to £2300 such that it can find its way to a good home. We are also happy to accept any reasonable offers.
I would like to reassure you that this is a fully functioning guitar that is nothing but exceptional to play; we would not allow anything sub-standard to leave our shop to any of our customers.
The guitar will come in a beautiful, vintage worn leather hard case along with a bundle of hand selected case candy.
Please do get in touch with us if you have any questions about the guitar.
